Intrade Odds: Gov. Rick Perry is Now Front Runner
In just the last few days, Intrade odds for Texas Governor Rick Perry to be the 2012 Republican nominee (33%) have surpassed the odds for the previous front-runner Mitt Romney (29.9%), see chart above.

Not a huge Perry fan, but he doesn't carry around Romney's health care baggage, and he can point to a robust job creation record during the same period Obama took a wrecking ball to the rest of the country.
On the other hand, there are alot of nitwits like Benji out there who will say, with nothing but surface evidence, that he reminds them of Bush.
Paul,
I'm impressed that he shot & killed a coyote that attacked his dog while he was jogging.
Where but in Texas?
Can you say Perry/Rubio?
Texas- check
Florida - check
Texas jobs growth during recession- check
Hispanic vote - check
A man who shot a coyote while jogging vs. a man in mom jeans throwing out a pitch - check
Ron H,
Yeah, that was a pretty big story at the time. I found it amusing he would pack heat while jogging.
"Yeah, that was a pretty big story at the time. I found it amusing he would pack heat while jogging."
And yet, it makes perfect sense. At what other time might he have a greater need to defend himself?
A lot of things about Texas make sense. I may have to move there to maintain my sanity.

Tejas es Numero Uno--El Centro--en la Tres Mundo.
Soon, with a pending majority Hispanic population, Texas can marry its deeply cynical and corrupt Anglo power structure to Latinate sensibilities regarding government: that is, Government=Gong Show.
Another Texan? Let's see, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Actually, George Bush jr. was a little boy in short pants, Yale grad, from private east Coast boarding schools. Dodged the draft, snorted coke, smoked pot, drove drunk and become President of United States.
And we tell kids not to do drugs.
"Don't snort coke and drink and drive--you might end up being President of the United States."
Also, going AWOL might hurt your career--unless you can head up the GOP.
Sure, bring us another Texan. But if Perry doesn't win, will Perry be willing to stick it out and fill Michelle Bachmann's No. 2 void? Be the veep?
Funny how the tides shift--last week, it was Bachmann, Bachmann, Bachmann. Now they say Perry.
And where is Spiro Agnew when you need him?
The modern-day GOP is a confederacy of grifters, jackanapes, strumpets and carnival-barkers. I see Boehner cowers and then takes his cues from radio talk-show hosts. This is leadership?
Profiles in Courage, man, Profiles in Courage.
That's how you show the brontosaurus who is king of the forest. Courage.
Bunny,
I hope you can get your money back on that English to Spanish translation software.
Ron H.-
I can take credit for my own Spanglish. Comprende-a-ramo?
Tejas es muy, muy bueno. Solomenta problemo: Comida es P.U.
I shot my wife for attacking my dog. Does that count?
"I shot my wife for attacking my dog. Does that count?"
Not unless she was rabid. In Texas, wives know where they stand, and would never consider attaching someone's dog, so they aren't usually considered a threat.
"Another Texan? Let's see, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan."
See what I mean about nitwits like Benji? Looks like my prediction about Benji moving back in to the loving arms of his boyfriend for 2012 is taking shape.
"I see Boehner cowers and then takes his cues from radio talk-show hosts. This is leadership?"
The House GOP has produced Paul Ryan's plan and "Cut, Cap, and Balance." Your boyfriend's plan is to rapidly bankrupt the country. And it went down to defeat in the Senate by a unanimous margin.
That is an interesting story about Perry. He jogs with a .380 Ruger, packed hollow-point bullets, which we used to call "dum-dums" back when I was a boy.
They are known to expand on impact--in fact, oddly enough, US soldiers do not use dum-dums, and they are outlawed by Geneva convention.
Here is Perry's own account:
"I’m enjoying the run when something catches my eye and it’s this coyote. I know he knows I’m there. He never looks at me, he is laser-locked on that (my) dog,” Perry said.
“I holler and the coyote stopped. I holler again. By this time I had taken my weapon out and charged it. It is now staring dead at me. Either me or the dog are in imminent danger. I did the appropriate thing and sent it to where coyotes go,” he said.
Perry said the laser-pointer helped make a quick, clean kill.
“It was not in a lot of pain,” he said. “It pretty much went down at that particular juncture.”"
Hmmm. The coyote never attacked. It just looked at Perry and his dog.
Let's see: Texan LBJ and Vietnam. Texan Bush jr. and Iraq and Afghanistan.
Perry? I don't know, we are bankrupt already, and I don't think we can afford any more pointless wars. And this guy has a screw loose.
At I waited until my wife actually attacked my dog before I fired.
"They are known to expand on impact--in fact, oddly enough, US soldiers do not use dum-dums, and they are outlawed by Geneva convention."
Are you referring to the hollow point cartridges developed by the British at their arsenal in Dum Dum India, near Calcutta in 1890?
Did you mean the ones that were outlawed, not at Geneva, but at the Hague convention of 1899 for use by the military in high powered rifles? The same convention that outlawed other technological advances, such as chemical weapons and bombing from the air?
OK, but these cartridges were never restricted for use in hunting, or in handguns.
At the end of the day it won't matter who runs for the GOP....a lay-up is a lay-up no matter who takes it.
Going to be hard for Obama to campaign without a record of anything, 9%+ and growing unemployment, < 2% GDP growth, no gitmo close, the Obamacare disaster, his "friendship" with union thieves, and his persistence in spending every last dollar to create uneconomic "green" jobs and the disaster that is HSR.
Don't you love how Benji makes his voting decisions? It's that same thorough analysis that bought the key to his heart back in 2008. Well done, Benji boy.
Actually, Ron H., you are wrong and I am wrong.
"The Hague Convention of 1899, Declaration III, prohibits the use in warfare of bullets that easily expand or flatten in the body.[3] This is often incorrectly believed to be prohibited in the Geneva Conventions, but it significantly predates those conventions, and is in fact a continuance of the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868, which banned exploding projectiles of less than 400 grams, as well as weapons designed to aggravate injured soldiers or make their death inevitable. NATO members do not use small arms ammunition that is prohibited by the Hague Convention."
So the ban on dum-dums goes all the way back to the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868.
And you are specifically wrong, in that it is small arms fire in which NATO members do not use dum-dums.
And I am right in that Rick Perry, jogging with a .380 Ruger loaded with dum-dums, and shooting coyotes who look at him, has a screw loose.
Yo Benny,
I vote Republican, although I lean losertarian domestically, because they scare business the least. Tell me how Democrats are pro-market/pro-business? Obama wants to get rid of coal power plants. Wanna see what happens when energy costs too much, look at California and the lack of heavy industry.
Perry seems like another centrist Republican like Romney, the last thing we need. Plus, there's always the gay rumors. I hope one of Daniels, Christie, or Rand Paul decides to get in late, because with this field of midgets, Obama is about to block what should be a layup.

You are getting confused on this, and are getting it wrong.
The St Pete Declaration prohibited exploding, incendiary and fulminating projectiles of less than 400 grams. Flattening, hollow points were prohibited in 1899 at the Hague Convention.
I never mentioned NATO, and didn't suggest that they use dum-dums.
You should understand that the term 'small arms' refers to weapons an individual soldier might carry, and includes several types of weapons, including handguns, but the convention didn't address handgun ammo, as its typically lower muzzle velocity, doesn't cause the damage that is the focus of the ban on hollow point long gun ammo.
Ian--
Many times I have posted that the primary weakness of the D-Party, besides campaigning like a lot of sissies, is that they are anti-business. Pointlessly anti-business, in this day and age.
Rona-
Glad you know so much about guns.
Still, if I had a neighbor who jogged wearing a .380 Ruger with a laser-sight, and who came back one day braying about shooting a coyote who had committed the offense of looking at him, I might start looking for somewhere else to live. Hmm, your German Shepherd gives him a stare? Muffled noises at night in the bushes?
I will grant his: Perry appears to be a better shooter than Dick "Sure Shot" Cheney. At least Perry didn't shoot his own dog. That we know of.
